Using your scanner and Photoshop/Elements to make fun embellishmentsby Susan Rodriguez, Creative Team Member
I have this purse that I bought while on vacation in August in Morro Bay, CA. What really attracted me to this purse were the eyes on it. I thought it would be fun to scan in my purse and pull off the eyes for a fun embellishment. This is what I did.
First I scanned in my purse.
Once I brought the image into Photoshop I cropped out the portion of the purse I did not need and worked on deleting the back ground so that all that was left was just the eye portion.
Don’t worry about it being cleaned up perfectly once you create it into an embellishment it will clean it self up.
I then created an artistic filter on the image. Depending on your image you may want to experiment with the different filters, I used a palette knife filter. I like the dreamy effect I got from it.
I then added a drop shadow to give it a slight pop out effect.
Right click on the layer.
Click on Blending Options.
Click and on Drop Shadow.
For this image these are the settings I chose.
Angle 120
Distance 5
Speed 0
Size 15
It really depends on the effect you are going for so just play around with the different settings.
Here is my completed image.
How I used it in a project:
