I've been receiving lots of beginner questions lately so I thought I'd share.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">How do I start if I wanted to?</span><br /><br /><ol><li><span style="font-weight: bold;">You need a software program</span> that will open PDF's, jpegs, and png files for the most <span style="font-weight: bold;">basic</span> tasks. You will be able to print out those files to add to a card or scrapbook page, however you will not be able to do actual scrapbooking. A program example would be Word.</li><li>For actual scrapbooking, you need a software program <span style="font-weight: bold;">for editing</span> such as <span style="font-weight: bold;">Photoshop Elements or ACDSee Photo Editor</span>. Photoshop Elements is around $100-130 and ACDSee PE is about $45. These two programs are perfect for someone who just wants to scrapbook digital or hybrid. A free program that allows you to scrap online with their digital elements is www.scrapblog.com (and they also have premium kits you buy and use only within their system. Photoshop Elements and ACDSEE Photo Editor allow you to use any kit you purchase or find for free).<br /></li><li><span style="font-weight: bold;">If you are a professional photographer</span> and/or someone wishing to create a digital scrapbook kit from scratch, then you need the Photoshop Creative Suite which is quite an investment. (I prefer to use what others create, and so I love Photoshop Elements and I also have ACDSee Photo Editor).<br /></li></ol><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">To organize your kits,</span> you can use the organizer in Photoshop Elements. I prefer to skip the Organizer in Photoshop Elements myself, because it is slow. <span style="font-weight: bold;">I purchased ACDSee Photo Manager 10</span> (this is separate from ACDSee Photo Editor). ACDSee Photo Manager does not slow down your computer and allows for organization through tagging. I don't know how I scrapped before without ACDSee Photo Manager. I am not sure if it is available for Mac, however if you are on a Mac, then just use the free Organizer that comes with Elements.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;"> How does it all work when you purchase a digi kit?</span><br />In your emailed invoice, there will be a link to a download link. You download the kit to your desktop. Scan it with anti-virus software. Then you need to unzip it with unzip software. I unzip it to the desktop, then I move the digital kit to the folder I want to store it. Then, while I have it in front of me, I tag it within my organizer so that I can find it fast and easy when it is time to scrap. (I also send the zipped file to the recycle bin after the folder is moved to where I want to store it. You do not need the zipped file any more.)<br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">How do I use/access these files to make fun pages?</span><br />I suggest that you do not download a ton of freebies because soon you will run out of memory on your computer. When that time comes, the best thing is to purchase an external hard drive to store your photos and digital kits on. It is important to back-up your files on a weekly basis in case of a crash. Back-up onto DVD's or a second external hard drive.<br /><br />It is just like accessing digital photos, they remain in the folder that you assigned them to.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Once you make all these cool layouts using digi elements, then what? how are your pages enjoyed?</span><br /><ul><li>I have a standard size printer and print my pages at 8"x8" which is a great size album that fits on any size shelf. You could also have them printed full-size 12x12 at shutterfly, <a href="http://polkadotpotato.com/shop/home.php?cat=5">polka dot potato</a> or http://www.goodlifephoto.com/</li><li>You could have them printed in a photo book through a service such as shutterfly</li><li>You can incorporate them into hybrid pages<br /></li></ul><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Do you make cds for people with all the layouts on them?</span><br /><br />No, I do not. I would recommend DVD's or CD's depending how many you want to fit on a disk.<br /><br /><br />Resources:<br /><ul><li>The Daily Digi - <a href="http://thedailydigi.com/new/">For Those New to Digi</a> (Janet has taken her time and summed it up quite well)</li><li><a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/">Photoshop Elements 7</a> (I use Photoshop Elements 4 however the current version for sale is version 7) You can download it to try free for 30 days</li><li><a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelmac/">Photoshop Elements 7 for Mac</a></li><li><a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelmac/training.html">Photoshop Elements Learning Resources</a></li><li><a href="http://store.acdsee.com/store/acd/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.104324800">ACDSee Photo Editor 2008 </a></li><li><a href="http://community.acdsee.com/">ACDSee Forums</a></li><li><a href="http://digiscrapinfo.com/joomla/">Digiscrapinfo.com</a> - Here you will currently find 2 main things: resources fo ACDSee and resources on where to print those digital scrapbooking layouts, whether its prints or photo books.</li><li><a href="http://store.acdsee.com/store/acd/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.106893200">ACDSee Photo Manager 2008</a> - for organizing photos and kits</li><li><a href="http://www.scrapblog.com">Scrapblog</a> - online digital scrapbooking tools where some klits are free and some are premium. For this example I am using {canvas} photo masks by Amanda Sok available at Scrapgirls.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">The instructions for using these masks are very simple.</span><br />Step 1. Open your photo in PSE.<br />Step 2. Select the photo mask you wish to use, and open it in PSE.<br />Step 3. Drag the photo onto the photo mask so that it is the layer above the photo mask.<br />Step 4. Select ctrl+g to clip it together.<br />Step 5. To use it in a layout, select Layer--> Merge Visible.<br />Step 6. Drag the photo onto your layout.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Here are some looks that can be made with Amanda's photo masks.</span><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT_dSS7bI/AAAAAAAAFdU/CsXwJjVJJAI/s1600-h/5.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 289px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT_dSS7bI/AAAAAAAAFdU/CsXwJjVJJAI/s400/5.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267192851356380594" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT_ED7_HI/AAAAAAAAFdM/WBfthfaiEi8/s1600-h/4.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 288px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT_ED7_HI/AAAAAAAAFdM/WBfthfaiEi8/s400/4.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267192844585270386" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT-zNNAxI/AAAAAAAAFdE/rYTGuFILlgo/s1600-h/3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 289px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT-zNNAxI/AAAAAAAAFdE/rYTGuFILlgo/s400/3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267192840060732178" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT-ezVIxI/AAAAAAAAFc8/0bsr7RUzXvA/s1600-h/2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 288px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT-ezVIxI/AAAAAAAAFc8/0bsr7RUzXvA/s400/2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267192834583503634" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT-H4rpDI/AAAAAAAAFc0/eonhVVKhV8c/s1600-h/1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 286px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SRjT-H4rpDI/AAAAAAAAFc0/eonhVVKhV8c/s400/1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267192828431934514" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size: 180%;">Please <a href="http://everydaydigitalscrapbooking.blogspot.com/2008/09/do-you-want-new-content-on-this-blog.html">leave feedback</a> if you would like more new content on the EDS Blog!<br /><br />Julie Ann Shahin, Founder</span>Julie Ann Shahinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16644596197533711527noreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33901077.post-56770095448148192782008-09-23T10:50:00.009-04:002008-09-23T11:18:30.798-04:00How to to Use the Embed Action In Photoshop Elements for Digi Scrapbooking<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:180%;">How to to Use the Embed Action In Photoshop Elements for Digi Scrapbooking<br />by Julie Ann Shahin<br /></span></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://208.96.34.132/store_images/Mandy_Steward/wm_MST_SSTools_StylesEmbed1801_600.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px;" src="http://208.96.34.132/store_images/Mandy_Steward/wm_MST_SSTools_StylesEmbed1801_600.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />This is a tutorial to show you another option for drop shadowing on elements such as buttons, eyelets, and other things that "attach" to a page. I use the "<a href="http://store.scrapgirls.com/product/6882/ScrapSimple-Tools---Styles:-Embed-1801">Embed Action (Style)</a>" from Scrapgirls. This tutorial assumes that you have followed the instructions provided from Scrapgirls on how to install the tool in your styles palette.<br /><br /><br />Here is the layout that I am using this tool on. I want to shadow the denim ribbon eyelets.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDoN9eK2I/AAAAAAAAFXM/P7lsg_AZ-pY/s1600-h/1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDoN9eK2I/AAAAAAAAFXM/P7lsg_AZ-pY/s400/1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249230830154165090" border="0" /></a><br />********************************************</div><br />Step 1. In the Styles & Effects palette on the right, chose Styles, then chose the Embed Action. Make sure the layer you want to use the tool on is selected. In this case, I am using the tool on the left denim ribbon with eyelets.<br /><br />Step 2. Go to Layer --> Layer Style --> Scale Effects. You can see I adjusted the scale to 30<br /><div style="text-align: center;">(Click on image to enlarge)<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDoq4VkhI/AAAAAAAAFXU/5SLJ7fQmuDA/s1600-h/2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDoq4VkhI/AAAAAAAAFXU/5SLJ7fQmuDA/s400/2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249230837917258258" border="0" /></a>You can compare the Embed style with the regular drop shadow which I used on the right denim ribbon. The left ribbon is a more pronounced shadow, which I prefer in this case.<br /><br />Note: There are 6 different types of this tool. I try different ones until I get the look that I desire. I do not have a rule about which type to use with certain embellishments.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">********************************************<br /></div>In the image below, I have applied the tool to all three ribbons.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDXb7dtQI/AAAAAAAAFWs/59JwcDdc6-w/s1600-h/7.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDXb7dtQI/AAAAAAAAFWs/59JwcDdc6-w/s400/7.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249230541846066434" border="0" /></a><br />********************************************</div><br />Next, I'm going to use the Embed Tool Style on a staple. This is the staple before.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDX6ccOxI/AAAAAAAAFW0/vGL3udwiL2Q/s1600-h/8.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDX6ccOxI/AAAAAAAAFW0/vGL3udwiL2Q/s400/8.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249230550037445394" border="0" /></a><br />********************************************</div>Now I've clicked on the tool and the style has been applied to the staple. (You can click on the image to enlarge if you wish).<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDX871QoI/AAAAAAAAFW8/81JzTrqTApU/s1600-h/9.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDX871QoI/AAAAAAAAFW8/81JzTrqTApU/s400/9.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249230550705980034" border="0" /></a><br />********************************************</div><br />As I did in Step 2 above, I've adjusted the scale of the tool until I get the desired effect.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDYCXomLI/AAAAAAAAFXE/_koon9vLa_E/s1600-h/10.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDYCXomLI/AAAAAAAAFXE/_koon9vLa_E/s400/10.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249230552164767922" border="0" /></a><br />********************************************<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">In my last example, I am going to apply the tool to the epoxy button in the middle of this paper circle. First, I want to duplicate this layer. Second, on the top duplicate layer -I applied the tool to the whole circle as the embellishment .png comes with the button in the middle.<br /></div></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDJ8Dc-0I/AAAAAAAAFV8/oOdns2z6ZVk/s1600-h/11.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0hyvH00fOSA/SNkDJ8Dc-0I/AAAAAAAAFV8/oOdns2z6ZVk/s400/11.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5249230309951339330" border="0" /></a><br />********************************************<br /><div style="text-align: left;">Next, on the same layer, since I want the style applied only to the button - I erase or cut away the outer circle. I felt there was a lack of support for the blog (lack of support / lack of interest because no one communicated with us that they liked our blog posts), not to mention that I was over-committed in too many projects. I received many emails while the blog was offline, asking for permission to read the blog. They are another way to let your imagination go wild...<br /><br />Creating a grid lay out is very easy using graphic software, instead of a punch. It is more versatile and offers more possibility..<br /><br />Let's begin!<br /><br />Open your graphic software and open a document the size of the finish you want in my case mine is 6.5x6<br />Turn on the grid to the desire width you need<br /><br />Use the rectangle marquee flood fill the square and repeat for each..<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n31/mphoinix/MlamarreDesigns_Inchiescopy.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; There really are so many options, that is the great thing about hybrid.<br /><br /></span><span style="font-family:verdana;">Obviously the choices for the beginner hybrid scrapbooker are probably going to be limited so I thought what better than a side by side comparison! The papers that almost every scrapbooker has in their supplies are: cardstock (smooth or textured) and photo paper (glossy or matte). Each one of these can be used for hybrid scrapbooking, and each gives the project a different look and finish.<br /><br /></span><ul><li><span style="font-family:verdana;">Cardstock: I use plain white cardstock a lot for hybrid. First it’s inexpensive and second I have a lot of it. Textured or smooth depends on my project.</span></li><li><span style="font-family:verdana;">Photo Paper: I print my photo’s at home so I always have photo paper on hand. Photo paper comes in lots of finishes, matt and glossy being the two most popular.</span></li></ul><span style="font-family:verdana;">My choice for deciding which paper to print on depends a lot on the project in question. I decided to make a hybrid card, and print it out onto different papers to compare the difference.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/SDcP5tVneMI/AAAAAAAAFNg/Yb3_zqTGdpI/s1600-h/image1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/SDcP5tVneMI/AAAAAAAAFNg/Yb3_zqTGdpI/s320/image1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5203645378547120322" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">I printed the digital portion onto smooth cardstock, matte photo paper and glossy photo paper. The cardstock <span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" >(left)</span> gave a dull flat color and finish to the card. The glossy photo paper <span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" >(right)</span> gave the most vibrant color and detail, but in lights gave off a glare and sometimes made it difficult to see<span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" > (and photograph)</span>. Falling in the middle is the matte photo paper, which really did fall between both. The colors were stronger than the cardstock, but the detail wasn’t as good as the glossy photo paper, but there was no light glare.</span><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/SDcP6dVneNI/AAAAAAAAFNo/JAJK6pqNkqU/s1600-h/image2.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/SDcP6dVneNI/AAAAAAAAFNo/JAJK6pqNkqU/s320/image2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5203645391432022226" border="0" /></a><span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" ><span style="font-family:verdana;">In this scan you can see the difference between the card on the left (cardstock) and right (glossy photo paper). The difference is much more pronounced in real life.</span></span><br /></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">I’ll still continue to use all three papers, deciding which finish I‘d prefer with each project. I like the variety. Even though the cardstock gave a flat finish with duller colors, for some projects that works great, especially on grungy or heavily distressed papers. Each paper has pro’s and cons, each one is worth trying, and each one has a place in my hybrid scrapbooking! </span><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/SDcP6dVneOI/AAAAAAAAFNw/by3RJZmgu60/s1600-h/image3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/SDcP6dVneOI/AAAAAAAAFNw/by3RJZmgu60/s320/image3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5203645391432022242" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Credits: Digital papers: Kitchen Curtains, Meredith Fenwick, Digital stitching: Robin Blankenship; Flower: Yellow Sprite, Prima; Gem: center kisses, Prima; Photoshop CS3</span></span><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Of course this is just about papers, not taking into account transparencies, vellums and specialty printing mediums, that's a whole other tutorial ;)<br /><br />Have fun with Hybrid!<br /><br />Hugs<br /><br />Di<br /></span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33901077.post-70666103592843865752008-06-01T20:54:00.005-04:002008-06-02T00:26:26.563-04:00From Digital Template to Paper!Sketches, Digital Templates Revisited<br />By <a href="http://mphoinix.blogspot.com/">Maggie Lamarre</a><br /><br />Chances are since you have started scrapbooking, you have use a sketch, or visited a sketch blog. What we are after is texture...:)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n31/mphoinix/MlamarreDesigns_modpodgepeeling.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n31/mphoinix/MlamarreDesigns_modpodgepeeling.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Once the backing is remove let dry, then use a soft cloth like a chamois and remove any residue paper..<br /><br />This is where you can let your imagination lose :)<br />Now we are going to add decorative stitching to the edge, then start assembling the collage..<br /><br />Glue the digital transfer to the fabric.<br /><br />Ps. don't worry it won't be this filmy it looks like that I didn't let it dry, I use a heat gun after I took this pic :)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n31/mphoinix/MlamarreDesigns_assembly.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n31/mphoinix/MlamarreDesigns_assembly.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Next collect your ephemera for the collage and spray walnut ink over them to give an age look :)<br /><br />then adhere the pieces to the digital transfer.. The <a href="http://dihickmandesigns.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products_id=57">card printable packs</a> come with a layered PSD file template, individual PNG files, a flat printable jpg for a pure digital card and what I'm calling a hybrid printable sheet.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://dihickmandesigns.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products_id=57"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO9o1oV0I/AAAAAAAAExE/hIG9FUUEyDs/s320/folder.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5187037322921137986" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">The <span style="font-weight: bold;">hybrid printable sheet</span> is simply the template all ready with digital papers and elements and separated onto a PNG file. All you need to do is open, print, trim and assemble!<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Step 1.</span> Open your photo editor and open the hybrid sheet. It should look something like the screenshot below. Notice how none of the elements are touching. This is good for easy trimming of each piece.<br /></span></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0I1oVvI/AAAAAAAAEwc/7hXPAdubVN4/s1600-h/screenshot1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0I1oVvI/AAAAAAAAEwc/7hXPAdubVN4/s320/screenshot1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5187037159712380658" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: bold;font-family:verdana;" >Step 2.</span><span style="font-family:verdana;"> Print the images out. I used photo paper but you can use white cardstock, sticker paper or transparency, etc. Once printed and trimmed with scissors/paper trimmer they should look like the example below.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0Y1oVwI/AAAAAAAAEwk/75F2ZisgGRM/s1600-h/image1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0Y1oVwI/AAAAAAAAEwk/75F2ZisgGRM/s320/image1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5187037164007347970" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Step 3.</span> Cut a piece of white cardstock to 5.5" x 4.25", score in half and fold. This is a standard invitation size cardbase and will fit an invitation or A2 envelope. Adhere the floral element to the top of the card base, then adhere the spotted paper to the bottom. There will be a slight overlap for dimension.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0Y1oVxI/AAAAAAAAEws/Rf1ddDZRha0/s1600-h/image2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0Y1oVxI/AAAAAAAAEws/Rf1ddDZRha0/s320/image2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5187037164007347986" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Step 4.</span> Adhere the flower element to the circle, the adhere the circle to the card as shown below.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0o1oVyI/AAAAAAAAEw0/YIe1buBSKfE/s1600-h/image3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R_wO0o1oVyI/AAAAAAAAEw0/YIe1buBSKfE/s320/image3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5187037168302315298" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Step 5</span>. Smother yourself in these very LARGE, vintage handpainted botanicals. The detail is stunning and these will go with anything. The coolest part is they are paper but after you shadow these beauties just right they couldn't look more real. I don't know but something about that is just perfect to me! I'm not crazy about "real life" plants on a paper craft but paper that looks real....does it get any better??? We'll, just know, it does. I have more of these beauties just waiting to be put to life. The presence of one set will do so much justice for now though. Give yourself a treat, you SO</span> <span style="font-family:tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:85%;">deserve it!</span></p><p><span style="font-family:tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:85%;"><strong>Included Here:</strong> 14 different pieces total. Some are full size plants that stand over 10" tall, a few are fragments that are approx. 5" tall and there are a couple of flower heads that measure around 3" tall. There is a 8.5x11 "Crafters Collages" (transparent printable)* as well.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:78%;">*All of my newest products will include "Crafters College" Sheets. This is an 8.5x11 transparent file that has all the items on it together. It's sort of like a sticker sheet that you can easily print at home but on the background of your choice. Then you can cut out the pieces you want to use on your non-digital crafty projects and save the rest on the sheet for another. You can create and/or use digital elements that will per<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_EsrIBjxiI/AAAAAAAAAHI/ijvTvbQNjj0/s1600-h/photo1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_EsrIBjxiI/AAAAAAAAAHI/ijvTvbQNjj0/s320/photo1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183973765480171042" border="0" /></a>fectly compliment your project whenever you feel like it. No more waiting for your order to arrive or spending countless hours searching for that perfect embellishment. You have everything you may need at your fingertips already.<br /><br />In today’s tutorial, we will be creating a wonderful journaling box from scratch using a digital program and then dressing it up to perfectly match any project.<br /><br />First, let’s open your photo editing program of choice and select a new document 6x4 inches, 300 dpi with a white background.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_EtwYBjxmI/AAAAAAAAAHo/M8HFqNZPQlw/s1600-h/photo2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 180px; height: 259px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_EtwYBjxmI/AAAAAAAAAHo/M8HFqNZPQlw/s320/photo2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183974955186112098" border="0" /></a><br />Then choose a font and color you would like to use. I will be using the Time New Roman left parenthesis bracket along with a chocolate brown color (#5B4B26).<br /><br /><br />Now simply type the { bracket character at approximately 276 points. Position the bracket at about ¾ inch in from the left-hand side of your document while centering it vertically.<br /><br /><br />Next we will work on creating the journaling lines. First select a new layer in your layers palette. Then using the same color simply select the brush tool at size 2 with a 51% opacity and draw a straight line. A great way to do this is to press and hold your shift key as you draw your line. This will keep it perfectly straight.<br /><br /><br />Once you have your line simple duplicate that layer and position it below the previous one. By duplicating each layer, all of your lines on the journaling area will be the same length. You can eyeball the spacing or you can turn on your grid lines if you would like them perfectly even. In my example, the lines are spaced about every 5/16 of an inch.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_EtDYBjxkI/AAAAAAAAAHY/kwPFJpMW2aU/s1600-h/photo3.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_EtDYBjxkI/AAAAAAAAAHY/kwPFJpMW2aU/s320/photo3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183974182091998786" border="0" /></a></div><br />Now your journaling block is ready for printing but you don’t have to stop there! You can add digital embellishments now along with various other layers or you can simply print and have fun with all your traditional supplies. You can also vary your cardstock and font colors to come up with various combinations.<br /><br />If you prefer to computer journal on your project, here are a few pointers: Select the Times New Roman font and use a font size of 12 along with spacing set at 25.3. This will ensure your text lines up perfectly with your journaling lines.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_Etg4BjxlI/AAAAAAAAAHg/P1aDnk6k6pg/s1600-h/photo4.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_iPEgzPy0rZI/R_Etg4BjxlI/AAAAAAAAAHg/P1aDnk6k6pg/s320/photo4.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183974688898139730" border="0" /></a>For the final project, I used <a href="http://digistore.treasurestoscrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=297">Deanna Patterson’s kit Monday ‘s with Dah</a>, I printed out her beautiful frame and used it to surround my journaling block instead of a photo. I then heat embossed the photo corner and the name plate to give it added dimension.<br /><br />Let’s see what you can do using this hybrid technique!! Can’t wait to see your projects.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33901077.post-84134252498683733282008-03-25T07:57:00.000-04:002008-12-09T11:58:43.605-05:00Using Layered Templates<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">by <a href="http://dihickman.blogspot.com/">Di Hickman</a><br /><br />One of the questions I’m frequently asked is “how do I use a layered template?” so I thought I’d put together a little tutorial to show you how to use a template. First we’ll assume you have some layered templates. There are many different kinds to choose from including layouts, cards, mini books, and ATCs. For this tutorial I’m using a template I made myself, and the Prima Hybrid “First Blush” kit.</span> <span style="font-family:verdana;">First open up your layered template .psd file in Photoshop, then open the paper you wish to use for the template layer.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R6EmDoptUAI/AAAAAAAADzc/FWkLJ-tuW00/s1600-h/screenshot1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R6EmDoptUAI/AAAAAAAADzc/FWkLJ-tuW00/s320/screenshot1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161448491837116418" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">Using the move tool, click and drag the paper file ONTOP of the shape layer you wish to make into patterned paper. You can see the layer palette on the right of the screenshot shows that my striped paper is above the layer I wish to clip it to.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R6EmD4ptUBI/AAAAAAAADzk/x1XMemtMqiM/s1600-h/screenshot2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R6EmD4ptUBI/AAAAAAAADzk/x1XMemtMqiM/s320/screenshot2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161448496132083730" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">To make the paper take the shape of the layer beneath, we simply add a clipping mask. Imagine this like a die cut, the layer beneath is the die and it ‘cuts’ the paper into the shape. To do this have the patterned paper layer selected (as shown) and press “Ctrl G” <span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">(in Photoshop CS and above the command is ctrl, alt, G),</span></span> the patterned paper should now have the same shape as the layer beneath it.</span><br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R6EmEYptUCI/AAAAAAAADzs/dQR3j9xaOeA/s1600-h/screenshot3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I_PpgCTFeeo/R6EmEYptUCI/AAAAAAAADzs/dQR3j9xaOeA/s320/screenshot3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161448504722018338" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family: verdana;font-size:100%;" ><br /></span><div style="text-align: justify; font-family: verdana;font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-size:100%;">Repeat with all the layers you wish to change, and complete your layout. The clipping mask is a great tool and for templates it makes pages quick and easy!<br /><br /></span><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 115%;font-size:85%;" >Layout credits: Digital kit: “First Blush” Collaboration kit, Prima Hybrid; Template by Di Hickman</span></p></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><center><a href="http://www.scrapinstyletv.com/"><img style="display: none;" src="http://www.scrapinstyletv.com/ads/bannerad_468x60b.gif" border="0" height="60" width="460" /></a></center><br /><br /><br /><center><a href="http://www.theshakerbox.com/"><img src="http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07403/kit-banner-oct.gif" title="Free image hosting powered by xs.to" /></a><br />Mention this ad and get free May Arts Ribbon with your first order at The Shaker Box!</center><br /><br /><center><a href="http://shop.3scrapateers.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=234&cat=%2AApril+Staker"><img src="http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07442/AStaker_Banner_SOF.gif" title="Free image hosting powered by xs.to" /></a></center><br /><br /><script type="text/javascript"><!-- amazon_ad_tag="httpeverydayd-20"; amazon_ad_width="728"; amazon_ad_height="90"; amazon_color_border="C80109"; amazon_color_logo="FFFFFF"; amazon_color_link="DC1D25"; amazon_ad_logo="hide"; amazon_ad_title="Everyday Digital And Hybrid Scrapbooking"; //--></script><br /><script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/s/asw.js"></script>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33901077.post-11502288913863131312008-03-20T15:46:00.001-04:002008-03-20T15:48:15.745-04:00Call for Hybrid Projects for Publication - Due May 1, 2008<b>Subject: Volume 2, Issue 3 - MAGAZINE CALLS</b><br />Deadline: <b>MAY 1, 2008</b><br /><br /><b><a href="http://www.scrapbookdimensions.com">Scrapbook Dimensions magazine</a> is for artists</b> who wish to enhance their creativity by embracing and blending the traditional paper products with digital products.
